Title: GEH Policy Action Paper Launch: Closing the Leadership Gap
Organizers: Global Health Workforce Network's Gender Equity Hub, Women in Global Health, World Health Organization
Description: Women are almost 70% of the global health and social workforce, but it is estimated they hold only 25% of senior roles. During the COVID19 pandemic, women have provided much health and care but have not had an equal say in decision-making. This pervasive leadership gap between women and men in health can only be closed by addressing systemic barriers to women’s advancement and having gender-transformative policies in place.
To address this gap, Global Health Workforce Network's Gender Equity Hub is launching its first-ever policy action paper on closing the leadership gap in a series of four! will be launched by the WHO’s Global Health Workforce Network’s Gender Equity Hub. In this Paper, policy actions needed to achieve gender transformative policies for women’s leadership in health and care will be proposed. This Action Paper builds on a policy brief, Gender Equity and Leadership in the Global Health and Social Workforce, issued by the Hub for consultation in 2020. The Action Paper will contribute insights into women’s leadership in health and care and feasible policy interventions to ensure more gender-equitable and representative leadership. The Paper will provide practical examples and guidance for policymakers to incorporate gender equity into health and social workforce policies. Then this will be followed by the expert panel discussion and taking questions from the audience.
