WHAT IS IT?
The Global Health calendar, or GH calendar, is a tool that will centralize information about events occurring worldwide related to Global Health, so you can easily access them and you don’t miss anything! The events will be published by us, but you can contribute in filling the calendar with GH events of your interest. We want this tool to be easily accessible, practical, updated and collaborative.
It is important to note that we do not organize the events found in this calendar. The ones organized by the Global Health Next Generation Network are found in Events.
This means that we cannot ensure that this events will happen, and we do not take responsibility if they are cancelled. We also want to make clear that we are not receiving any gains from promoting these events.

You can contribute to the GH calendar by sending us events you find interesting in the form found below, as long as they are within the scope of Global Health. We’ll review them and publish them on the calendar.

Legal Diplomacy, Situational Self-Restraint and Dejudicialisation Organizers: Global Governance Centre, Graduate Institute Geneva (part of ERC funded research project "The Paths of International Law" Description: In recent years, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has faced a growing number of challenges, stemming, among other reasons, from problems with the implementation of some of its judgments, an upsurge of sovereigntist sentiments in some member states and the rise of de facto illiberal democracies within its jurisdiction. This article examines the effects that these changing contexts have had on the operation of the ECtHR. In very general terms, the article finds that the ECtHR has become increasingly more restrained, but that this restraint plays out in multiple different ways which reflect the structural differences among the member states with regard to the protection of human rights. The article argues that the ECtHR has developed a new and differentiated legal rationality that combines elements of its original legal diplomacy with new forms of strategic deference and a different vision for its overarching role in the protection of European human rights. Within this broader history of colonisation, asking what Jewish settlers ate there might not seem like a pressing matter. But for many Jewish experts in Palestine – including nutritionists, agronomists, economists, and others – promoting a proper diet among Jewish newcomers was not strictly a matter of public health, but rather a tool to support and sustain a growing settler-colonial economy in an expanding Jewish settlement. Notably, women led many of the efforts to educate Jewish settlers on matters of consumption. Through food programmes, newspaper columns, radio shows, and cookbooks, female nutrition experts prescribed a diet that drew on nutritional science but was adapted to national goals. Bringing together food, physiques, and Zionist ideology, this presentation will highlight the political economy of nutrition and its value for the colonisation of Palestine. Kelli Dillon, who was involuntarily sterilised at the age of 24 while incarcerated, teams up with Cynthia Chandler, a human rights lawyer, to fight for reproductive justice at the world’s largest women’s prison, the Central California Women’s Facility. As they prepare to take Kelli’s case to court, they uncover a wide range of crimes occurring within the facility – from inadequate access to healthcare to sexual assault to illegal sterilization – the latter largely perpetrated against the facility’s Black and Latinx populations. Their joint efforts in exposing the atrocities carried out behind closed doors ultimately shed new, timely light on the systemic racism and violence impacting people of color in women’s prisons, in a fight for reparations and justice. What is clear, however, is that it is up to the humanitarian sector to leverage this moment of global crisis to exert the type of transformative change it may really need. Through the conference, HERE would like to use the preliminary findings of its research project “Beyond the pandemic” to move collectively from analysis to solutions. If we have a good idea of what does not work, how do we make change happen? What needs to be integrated into current global policy processes? The true value of an ecosystem is its diversity of views. HERE is therefore not looking for the ideal solution but it rather believes in creating the opportunity to bring different visions together to map alternative ways forward. Mental health conditions were associated with global economic costs rising to U$S 1 trillion per year. These estimates are expected to further increase in the current context and have an unprecedented impact on an already overstretched healthcare system. Identifying preventable risk factors for depression and other mental health conditions has the potential to help reduce this burden and improve the mental wellbeing of all citizens. Higher rates of anxiety and depression can be directly associated with the infection in a part of the population that experiences increased fear of getting infected, contagion or uncertainty regarding the course of the treatment. But the largest impact of the pandemic will be indirect, and associated with stressors originating from the significant disruptions in living and socioeconomic conditions including enforced isolation, domestic violence, financial burden and wider environmental factors such as lack of access to green spaces. In this seminar we will discuss these expectations based on the social determinants of mental health model and results of the CoviCat study. Circular economy policies and initiatives largely take place domestically at the national or regional level. However, they have important interlinkages with international trade. International trade plays an important role in circular supply chains in materials and products, end-of-life value chains in waste and scrap, secondary raw materials and second-hand goods. In this light, how can trade contribute to a more resource efficient and circular economy? How would the circular economy transition have an impact on global trade patterns? And in what ways can we secure coherence in these two policy areas? Debele juxtaposes two divergent archives to think about how the female body is produced through discourses on sexual desire. On one hand, she focuses on Wendy Belcher’s and Michael Kleiner’s controversial translation of a hagiography of a female patron saint from the 16th century. On another, she looks at magazines – which exclusively focused on women and sex – that were produced in the first few years of regime change in Ethiopia in 1991.
